UPDATE: Baseball Immersion Trip To The Dominican Republic
IMPORTANT UPDATE: We are delaying the tryout for the Dominican Baseball Trip at this time. There has been a brand new update to KSHSAA rules regarding the start of the high school season and we are exploring moving the trip up before the high school season instead of after. We will publish more information once we have more clarity.
We are thrilled to announce an exciting upcoming experience for baseball players in Wamego! In June 2024, the Wamego Sports Academy will take a team of baseball players to the beautiful Dominican Republic for an unforgettable week of baseball games, cultural immersion, and volunteer work. This trip promises to be a remarkable experience, where our 12 talented players from Wamego will not only showcase their skills on the field but also learn about the vibrant Dominican culture and make a positive impact through volunteer activities.
Unveiling the Objective: Our primary objective in organizing this trip is to provide our players with a unique opportunity to engage in high-level baseball competition against various baseball academies in the Dominican Republic, specifically those in Boca Chica and San Pedro. Beyond the games, we aim to foster personal growth, cultural understanding, and a spirit of community service among our players.
The Road to Selection: To ensure the most deserving players represent Wamego Sports Academy in the Dominican Republic, a rigorous tryout process will be conducted. Skills, performance, and attitude will be carefully evaluated to assemble a cohesive and talented team ready to take on the challenges ahead. Players must be attending USD 320 and be in graduating classes of 2025, 2026, or 2027. The tryouts will be held on August 13th at the Dub.
Journeying into Dominican Baseball: The centerpiece of our trip will be the baseball games against the Dominican baseball academies and a clinic with the Kansas City Royals Dominican Academy. Our players will have the incredible opportunity to showcase their abilities, compete against top-level talent, and immerse themselves in the passionate baseball culture of the Dominican Republic.
Cultural Immersion: Our team will not only be athletes but also curious explorers. During our stay in Santo Domingo & Boca Chica, we will delve into the rich history and cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic. Visits to historical sites, interaction with locals, and cultural workshops will provide our players with a profound understanding of the Dominican way of life.
Making a Difference through Volunteer Work: Recognizing the importance of giving back, our team will actively participate in volunteer work, painting houses, during our time in the Dominican Republic. We will collaborate with local organizations and community projects, dedicating our energy and efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Logistics and Safety:The well-being and safety of our players are of paramount importance. Stringent planning and organization will ensure smooth logistics, including travel arrangements, accommodation, transportation, and adherence to necessary safety protocols. Parents and guardians can rest assured that we will prioritize the security and comfort of our team at all times.
Budgeting and Fundraising: Embarking on a trip of this magnitude requires financial support. Thanks to incredibly generous sponsors in the community the cost for the trip will only be approximately $600 for each player (subject to change per airline fees).
Documenting the Journey:We understand the significance of capturing and preserving memories from this transformative experience. Throughout the trip, we will document our adventures, compiling photographs, videos, and testimonials that will serve as a cherished memento for players, staff, and parents to reflect upon and share.
